Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report early analysis suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
