Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev claimed his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

Success also indicates he has secured 21 victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.

The opponent saved four early-game chances in a tight final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he secured the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
